Issue #008, March 1, 2012

February is always a crazy month in Ecuador. Here in Tena we have the the Napo Province Festival on February 12th, and several days before and after depending on when it falls in the week. And Carnival usually falls in February.

My son has had several days off from school which we were all happy about. But now comes our punishment...

He had 4 days off. Of these four days he has to make up two. And to make it up he has to go to school on Saturday. I don't know who ever thought this was a good idea, but it's dumb to me. And schools aren't the only ones, many public offices are also making up for their days off. So the little guy went to school last Saturday and he has to go this Saturday. I'm afraid that by the time the next full weekend comes he's going to be exhausted.

Carnival

This yearly festival in the days before Ash Wednesday is celebrated in many different forms around the world. Many think of the famous Carnival in Brazil or Mardi Gras in the southern U.S. But the Ecuadorian version is quite a bit different. And the way it is celebrated makes it the one time of year I would rather not be in Ecuador.

March Photo Contest

Times up for submitting your photos of Ecuador for this month's contest. Not to worry though, I am accepting photos for April's contest. Please send a photo my way.

Now that the photos are in...it's time to cast your vote. I received five great photos and it may be hard to choose a winner. Voting is open all month long and the winner will be announced on April 1st. Don't forget!

Facebook

I am one of the few people that has never had a personal Facebook account and I probably won't change that any time soon. But I did make a page for Life-in-Ecuador.com. I've been posting news items and other little tidbits on Ecuador. I've also included a lot of my photos that I've yet to upload to the website. Please support the page and "like" it. Feel free to add your comments as well. Thanks.

Also new is the top banner on my website. I'd like your opinion of the new look. Post comments on my Facebook page...I've been getting mixed reviews.

Guess that's all from Ecuador for now. We are getting ready for some more visitors next month and are hoping to show them some great spots in our little corner of Ecuador. Which I will then share with you as well.

Until next time... Jess
